WebIt's related to the gcp auth plugin being used, nothing to do with your code. Helper tools are supported in kubeconfig files and that's how your authentication works to gcp. I didn't realize these were baked in. Anyways, just upgrade to the new plugin. Support is already in the codebase for older versions of k8s.
