However, I find that I can’t get any of my wired devices to connect to the router via any of the four yellow Ethernet ports on the back of the unit. I can only connect to this thing wirelessly.

Then set a static IP in the LAN settings of 192.168.1.x (I usually prefer 192.168.1.254) and disable the DHCP server. You can then hook up the coax cable.
